Disastrous

I'm at a complete loss on what to post at the moment. I'm having
trouble pulling away from the terrible news from Japan.

So much sadness at the earthquake and devastating tsunami. So much
anger at the idiocy of building dangerous power plants on that most
exposed spot. So much worry that the radiation will end up riding the
jet stream and infecting my beautiful home country.

And then there's all the unrest in the middle east and wait, a volcano
erupting in southern Japan...

This is why I usually don't watch the news!!!!

Hi DG,
The fuel in the reactors is not highly enriched and there is no fissile material in there to trigger a nuclear blast. The pressure vessels probably won't break, but if they did the radiation plume would not go high enough to reach the jet stream - all this at least is what the science guys at work are saying tonight. So, yes, there is plenty to worry about, but don't worry about either of those things. Scenes of those poor little children being tested for radiation quite heart-breaking though.

Well that's a measure of relief in a way! It's funny (read:sad) how it's easier to be sympathetic to the plight of another country when it's not going to touch your own backyard...
